WICOYAKE MIKAWAADAD is an annual Native American Creative Writing Conference that focuses on U.S. indigenous writings and writers that utilize foundations steeped solely in Native philosophy and Native thought for creative publication.

While there is great importance in social, legal, gender, environmental threats, identity, revolutions, post/neocoloniality, anthropological, land tenure, community health, boarding schools, modern race relations, domestic violence, bullying, impoverishment, sexual orientations, suicide rates, community organizing, court systems, and other political/sociopolitical issues tribal peoples face and engage in during these modern times, this conference focuses solely on the more aesthetic, philosophical, mathematical, scientific, thoughtful productions of  ancient Native thought in written creativity.

Political issues are normally discussed at most other indigenous conferences, whereas this event does not engage in the poignancy of such necessary topics. Conferences based more solely in politics are found elsewhere.

Indigenous foundations for WICOYAKE MIKAWAADAD are grounded in tribal phenomenon as informed by Tribal Elders which include star knowledge, kinship, ancient societies, linguistics, architecture, etymologies, psychoanalysis, fantasy, poetic/stanza rhyme and meter, music, dance, regalia, spirituality, food, plants, shape-shifting, hunt tactics, food gathering strategies, philosophies, pre/extramarital chastity, adornment, games, geospatial familial, artificial intelligence, neuroscience, intribal geographics, technology, theatre, seasons, film, oral traditions, arts/crafts, novel, ceremony, and other NonPolitical cultural expressions of which are not politically nor revolution charged.

Registrants must be tribally enrolled, affiliated, approved, other otherwise invited to attend WICOYAKE MIKAWAADAD.

Registrants must also have been raised amongst Native communities.

The conference also offers training for attendees in the processes of how to actually become a published author and also includes an actual writing session. Click on the large yellow REGISTER button above to book your spot through Pre-registration and regular Registration dates!

WICOYAKE MIKAWAADAD is the brainchild of the Northern Great Plains Native Artist Consortium (NGPNAC) - Writers Guild and creative thoughts of the conference's Event Executive, VR Janis (an accomplished, self published author of uniqe and original Native American Fantasy Fiction like no other).
